The 2020 Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society Premier Sale went ahead this year without the customary pre-sale show due to the coronavirus restrictions.
Topping the sale on the day and leading the shearling rams was Souldrop Spirit from N & T Hodgkinson, selling to H E Roberts, Anglesey, for 450gns closely followed by Souldrop Samson from the same flock taken home by S Willett for 400gns. Highhedges Daewon from S & S Cowle sold for 300gns and Mrs F R Fitzgerald’s Gawcombe Apache, 290gns.
Ram lambs were in demand with three from S Brodie, Brockhall Sirius, Brockhall Smoky and Brockhall Storm selling for 400gns, 340gns and 260gns and Springwood Emlyn, Springwood Errol and Springwood Ethan from Mrs J Evans’s flock finding new homes at 310gns, 240gns and 220gns. Another ram lamb Celyn Yuri this time from B&H Thomas, breeders of last year’s Supreme Champion, reached 250gns.
Topping the aged ram section was five year old Caer Goll Gaffer, sold by Mrs A V & Mr J W Brigg for 350gns.
Mrs J Evans again headed up the female sale with three of her homebred shearling ewes selling for 200gns and 150gns twice with two shearling ewes from J M Jeyes and family closely behind at 140gns and 135gns. The flock ewes forward from Mrs J Cammack sold for 110gns and ewe lambs peaked at 95gns for a pen from J Bradley.
