2016 Premier Show and Sale Report

Supreme Champion from RJ Thomas & Sons : Cynfarwy Oscar

2016 Premier Show and Sale Report

Champion Ewe from Miss RG Hamilton

Rugby Farmers Mart, Stoneleigh Park

Saturday 17th September.

Demand for shearling rams was high at this year’s Premier Show and Sale with a headline price of 470gns paid for Manor Gerald, a homebred ram from D & T Williams.

RJ Thomas & Sons dominated the ram classes in the pre-sale show winning every class including the group of three ram lambs and taking both the male and reserve male championships.  He went on to be awarded the Supreme championship by Judge Pete Middleton for his shearling ram Cynfarwy Oscar and took home the Phillip Smith Points Tankard.

Ram lambs sold to 230gns for an entry from GT Vasey and Sons and 220gns for Cynfarwy Prys from RJ Thomas and Sons’ flock. Two fine ram lambs from Anna Sanders, who was selling for the first time at a Society sale with her first crop of lambs, sold to 180gns and 145gns.

A price of 450gns was paid for the Supreme Champion with other shearling rams, Berrycott Douglas from C Hart and Ripple Fearless from N & C Williams, selling for £425gns and 410gns.  Leading the senior ram class were the two entries from RJ Thomas and Sons with the reserve champion Cynfarwy Norman selling for 360gns and Kislingbury Vasey, placed second in the class, selling for 430gns.

The top selling ewe this year was the winner of the shearling class and Reserve Champion female from N & C Williams selling for 220gns.  The female champion, achieving 190gns in the sale ring, was awarded to a ewe from Ruhi Hamilton.  Another success for the Amaroo flock having won both the female and supreme championships at this year’s Ruthin Show and Sale.

First in the ewe lamb class and selling for 150gns, was W Roberts’ ewe lamb.  Also placed in the ewe lambs classes was a lamb from Matt Gibson and his daughter Annabelle who had a bumper sale selling their ewe lambs for 118gns and 110gns with a delighted Annabelle going on to bid for all her favourite ewes in the sale. Once again the Ling cup for the group of three ewe lambs was taken home by Mrs J Evans for the fifth year running.

Our thanks go to the judge, assistant steward Lucy Jeyes, Tom Wrench and his team and everyone who helped on the day with special thanks going to all the vendors who supported our premier show and sale by entering their stock.

Teresa Hodgkinson
